The Power of Habits
To experience a happy and productive life, successful people align their daily habits with their goals. As Robert Collie eloquently expressed “Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.”
How does one align goals with habits? Start by getting clarity on your goals. Ask questions like: What is important to me and what do I want to contribute?
Living a diligent life with nourishing habits takes a degree of observation, reflection – and depending on the individual – support from others. Commonly individuals discover that having somebody to hold them accountable by becomes invaluable. Let someone in on what you are wanting to create or achieve. Accountability breeds response-ability and is the glue that ties commitment to results.
We discover what habits serve us and the world by noticing how we feel before, after or during the action performed. Try to be receptive and open with the inward feelings, and observe what the ripple effect is for you and those around you. It is common to adopt unhealthy, lazy and unproductive habits however you can change and flip these habits around. Once you have the self-awareness that a habit doesn’t add value and isn’t aligning with your goals then you are half way there! Keep going and make the change!
