A few days ago, Whitney Houston was found dead in a bath supposedly from either incorrect drug mixing or misuse. On a similar note, the Dad of a school friend of mine died after battling severe pain in his spine for many years. I remember Mike suffered severe back pain many years ago when when I was at school and saw him a lot more. He has been increasing his dosage and selection of medication including pain killers and anti-inflammatories over the past 20 years. Mike died at about 60, leaving children and grandchildren. This is way younger than he could have. There are so many people just like him who are wrongly advised or in other instances, don’t know the potential side effects in the short and long term, of taking medications.

These medications in many instances masks the problems that cause the pain. Pain is a vital message that tells you something is not quite right. By continuing life on medication like this, people open themselves up to two problems. Firstly, they can further aggravate the problem causing the pain but also they increase the toxic load in the body and the kidneys and liver can only take that for so long.

Pro-active steps in ones lifestyle are so important. Avoiding postures, positions and movements that cause or aggravate the pain is so important. Also, eating a healthy diet with lots of vegetables and fruit, sufficient water and doing some exercise to support ones improvement.

All it may take for some people, could be a Chiropractic check-up which may help them better understand their spine, health and well being better. This may lead to countless proactive steps which may lead one to better health and quality of life possibly negating the need for a lifetime of medication.

Who do you know that is toxifying their body?

Tennis has captured many people’s attention over the past few weeks, especially here in Melbourne. I remember watching Novak Djokovic a few years ago. He was a rising star with amazing talent at such a young age. During his early years of becoming a top 50 ranked player, he withdrew from games and also went off the court during a game due to stomach cramps and pain. Many spectators at the time thought it was all a Joke or an excuse when he was having a tough time against his opponent.

Soon after, in 2009, he started a Gluten Free diet and this was when he went from “Good to Great”. The question will often be asked “Did you reach such high performance levels as a result of your gluten free diet”? Novak often claims it has had such a substantial impact in his quest for being Tennis’s number 1.

Regardless of whether some people think it’s a coincidence or not, I feel that if you suffer digestive issues and cramps and are not sure what it may be especially after having them fully investigated, a good start would be eliminate a food type for 2 weeks and monitor the impact on your health and quality of life. Many people I have spoken to have been unbelievably surprised with the results after going through this guided process.

5 Top Tips to Help Make your Holiday Season a Stress Free Zone Subscribe to our blog

1. Do I really need to have the start of the Holiday Season as my deadline? Think about it. If you are working till New Year or even in those first weeks of January, this is a much better time to sit and focus on a project.

2. Can I do my research and/or shopping online? Many people love the tactile (touch and feel) nature of shopping, so do your research online first and then enjoy one or two days out and about.

3. What is my budget? Many people buy gifts on credit and don’t realise how much they’ve spent until the credit card account arrives in January. When making your list, include a column for budget. Total it, and see if it’s realistic. If not, edit the amounts!

4. Which events do I really want to go to? Sometimes, we attend events just because we feel like we should… Life’s too short- just say NO!

5. Am I setting myself up for failure? Many of us picture the perfect family where everyone is well-behaved and the children play quietly with their new toys. Is this your reality? Don’t expect the perfect holiday season. What will be, will be.

The holiday season is a time to spend with our loved ones and show gratitude for the wonderful people we have in our lives and realise just how fortunate we are. We know that with a healthy spine and nervous system we are better able to see the world more clearly and make better choices for our family and ourselves. Make sure you have a Chiropractic check-up at Back In Line Chiropractic!

We wish you a splendid and healthy Holiday Season!

Every day in practice, we see people coming in to our office wanting to not only get well but also stay well. Some of the critical questions we ask clients, are the simplest of things that we could ask ourselves. Many people turn up to the workplace each day but their thoughts are focused more on their job that they need to get done rather than their ability to be health and well and enjoying the work that they do.

Wellbeing is not only important outside of work but is equally important while at work. So many people suffer unnecessary headaches, back pain, shoulder pain and other symptoms as a result of poor workplace ergonomics. Learn lots and keep well, then stay well.

A work environment with good fresh air would be great. Imagine working outdoors. Some are lucky enough but most of us are not. Good lighting is equally important especially if you need to “See” what you are doing. Correct ergonomics are critical. There is nothing more frustrating when clients to start getting well and then realise that they have recurrences in issues as a result of things that they could be helping themselves. Spend some time looking through this page on our website so you can set your desk up appropriately. http://www.backinline.com.au/health-tips/posture-and-ergonomics/

How often do you take breaks at work? Do you avoid sending internal emails or making internal phone calls when you could take a 5 minute walk to talk with that person. Have you ever tried thinking about your work while you stand up and stretch for a while. Do you ever make phone calls while walking around? Some research in the past has shown that the conversation could be more productive as a result.

The 40 weeks in the lead up to the birth of a child is a crucial time for the mind and body of expectant mothers and families. It is the starting point for change in life, not only in lifestyle but in body and mind. Increased hormones and additional weight places extra stresses on the body which ultimately affects the health of mother and baby.

A natural healthy approach and attempt to keep a calm balanced mind can greatly assist in the extreme change that is occurring.

In over ten years of experience as a Chiropractor, I observe that the majority of pregnant women who present for care do so for general spinal and pelvic alignment and greater wellbeing.

Did you know that there are a variety of benefits that Chiropractic may bring pregnant women? Without delving into a complex explanation of all the additional health benefits of Chiropractic care (we have a fantastic book in our practice ‘Well Adjusted Babies’ which can do this for you), here are a few facts that you may not already know:
1) Chiropractic care may reduce labour time by up to 30%.

2) One hospital study noted a 50% decrease in the need for painkillers during delivery which was attributed to Chiropractic care.

3) Many pregnant women under Chiropractic care suffer far less lower back and sciatic pain.
