Many adjustments don’t even make a noise. Lubricating fluids separate the bones of each  joint. Some adjusting methods can produce a sound when the gas and fluids in the joint change. It is much like opening a bottle of champagne or removing a suction cup. There is no friction of the bones. The noise is not an indication of the spine “going in” or “going out”.
